With the rise of corporate sector chartered accountancy as a profession is witnessing a rapid growth. In recent times, accountancy has become popular as a profession. The services of a CA are required in money matters even in a small business. Moreover according to the Company Act only CA's in professional practice are allowed to be appointed as auditors of companies in India. Accountancy tends to be a very stable profession, as financial reports must be generated whether the business situation is good or bad. As demand for financial information increases with the emergence of a global economy, the field grows larger. A Chartered accountant is one who is specialized in accounting, auditing and taxation and is accepted as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) after having passed the Final examination of the Chartered accountancy course conducted by the institute. A chartered accountant also serves as a management and corporate caretaker. There are three levels of Chartered Accountancy Course in India. Common Proficiency Test is an entry-level programme. A student can appear (CPT) after appearing in the Senior Secondary Examination. The second stage is Professional Competence Course (PCC), articled training, and 100 hours of Information Technology Training (ITT). The third level is the Final Course to which students is registered after clearing PCC. Students may also undergo General Management and Communication Skills Course (GMSC) while undergoing Final course or after that. After passing, the final examination students are eligible to enroll with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India to become Chartered Accountants. |

The Chartered Accountancy Course is conducted by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has three sections -Foundation, Intermediate, and Final course.
Chartered Accountancy can be pursued after 10+2 or graduation. The whole course can be divided into three stages i.e. Foundation, Intermediate and Final. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India offers CA foundation course to students passing 10+2 in any subject. The duration of the course is one year. After clearing the papers of the foundation course, Articleship has to be done for a period of over 3 years under the practicing CAs or CA firms. Registered students who have completed training as articled or audit clerks and have completed the oral/postal tuition scheme imparted by the Board of Studies, are eligible to take the Intermediate Examination. Examination subject consists of – Accounting , Law , Auditing , Cost accounting, Income-Tax & Central Sales Tax, and Oganisation & Management and Fundamentals Of Electronic Data Processing. Students who successfully clear both the groups of Intermediate Examination of the Institute and complete the prescribed period of practical training can take the final exam. The examination subject consists of -- Advance Accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing and Company Law , Direct Tax Laws , Corporate Management, Secretarial Practice, Managerial Economics and National Accounting, Operational Research and Statistical Analysis, System Analysis and Data Processing, Costs Systems and Cost Control Management Information and Control Systems, Tax Planning and Tax Management, Management and Operational Audit. |

On attaining certificate of Chartered Accountants, ample of opportunities opens up. Whether you work in a firm or you carry on with your own private practice, there is so much to do. Moreover all the companies registered under the Companies Act, are required to get their accounts audited only by practicing Chartered Accountants. A CA can explore job opportunities with Government sector, public sector undertaking, and Private sector and can run their own consultancy services. Chartered accountants work as Finance Managers, Financial Controllers, Financial Advisors or Directors (Finance) and watch over the finances in the day to day management of companies. Their main areas of work include Accountancy, Auditing , Cost accountancy, Taxation, Investigation and Consultancy. CAs also perform functions under special positions such as directorships of companies, arbitrators for settling disputes, handling work related to insolvency, bankruptcy, etc. They are free to go in either for professional practice or to be employed by the industry sector (private companies, public sector undertakings, etc.)
Chartered Accountancy is a profession where returns are quite high be it public, private sector or own consultancy firm. The salary varies between Rs.25, 000 and 1.5 lakhs per annum. Similarly one who runs his/her own firm can also earn handsome of money. He/she can conduct auditing works in various companies.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India is the apex regulator of profession of C.A. in India. Having headquartered in Delhi it has four regional offices at Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, and Kanpur. There are 87 branches within the country and 9 chapters outside the country that enroll, conduct exam, train and grant certificate of practice to C.A.
