Minimum qualification required for certificate, diploma and bachelors courses in hotel management is 10+2. Selection to most government recognized institutes is based on common entrance test. Test consists of English, Reasoning, General Science and General Knowledge. The test is of two hour duration and is held around April every year. The test is followed by a group discussion and interview, in which a person's personality and confidence is seen. Private institutes also conduct tests of their own, the pattern of which is almost the same. Moreover, it needs a pleasant personality, a temperament that is unruffled by any crisis, a good memory of faces, great communication skills, self confidence and a permanent smile on your face. Last but not least, you should like people and demonstrate a passion for assisting people and anticipating their needs and requirements. |

Job prospect in this industry is very high and growing day-by-day. Graduates of professional courses under this field are usually taken as trainees under the positions they apply for. While most graduates usually seek work in five star hotels or other private hotel chains, some find themselves seeking alternative employment avenues in restaurant management, cruise ship hotel management, institutional and industrial catering, club or bar management, airline catering and cabin services, or management of catering departments in banks and insurance houses. Although dozens of career prospects are available in hotel management, the more common ones include General operations, Food and beverages, Catering Management, Housekeeping, Front Office Management and Sales & Marketing.
Compensation can greatly differ because of the number of factors affecting it. The most significant factors include the size of the firm or organization, the location of the business, when the applicant graduated and his or her academic performance . Generally, the pay package of Food and Beverage Manager is Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000, Executive Housekeeper is Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 27, 000 , Banquet Manager is Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 , Front Office Manager is Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 and Executive Chef is Rs. 30,000 above. |
