Industry overview:

Information technology (IT), as defined by the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), is "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." IT deals with the use of electronic computers and computer software to convert, store, protect, process, transmit and retrieve information, securely.

 Over the last few decades there has been a tremendous growth in IT, which has almost revolutionized the very outlook of the world. Computer and information technology are part of just about everything that touches our lives from the cars we drive, to the movies we watch, to the ways businesses and governments deal with us. Understanding different dimensions of computing is part of the necessary skill set for an educated person in the 21st century. According to leading reports, Indian software industry is set to achieve a turnover of 10 billion dollars by the year 2005. The projected demand for trained I.T. professionals is estimated at over 400,000 per year. There is a clear imbalance between the demand and supply of IT professionals with the result that this sector offers one of the highest remuneration packages. With the Internet rapidly changing the way we live, shop, entertain and work there is a tremendous scope for entrepreneurs with radical new in this field. The domestic hardware industry has witnessed quantum growth in the turnover and profits, which is largely attributable to our liberalized economy. INDIA has stood to the world standards and is being regarded the World over for it's skilled IT Professionals. Even the government has recognized the promising future of this industry and has formed a new IT Ministry which will give a boost to this industry. Eligibility:

 It  all depends on the kind of course and the level of study .For a course at undergraduate level one needs to have passes 10+2 in science.For a "B" level or graduate level DOEAC scheme one needs to have an "A" level certificate of diploma in computers or an equivalent. For Post Graduate courses graduation in Computer Science or any other degree related to science, mathematics, statistics or operational research is required. The salary of computer professionals depends on the type of employer – public or private. Generally private firms offer excellent salary as compared to government departments. Working experience, qualifications, ability are important factors in determining the pay level. In India, a fresh pass-out from an average engineering college can expect starting monthly salary somewhere between Rs.8, 000 – Rs.25, 000. With having 1-2 years of industrial experience, the salary may go up to Rs. 50, 000 per month and even more or beyond expectations. MCA pass outs from reputed universities/colleges are offered annual pay package up to 10 lakhs or more.
